Payload Details

Europa Clipper is built on a custom satellite bus, with scientific instruments by a number of different United States Universities and NASA centers. It is powered by two solar arrays for power, sufficient for the spacecraft even at this far distance from the Sun. It has a hypergolic propulsion system.

Launch is delayed due to coming Hurricane Milton. Expected at a date to be scheduled during October 2024.

In a relatively atypical arrangement, the Europa Clipper mission involves a fully-expended Falcon Heavy launcher, maximizing the power of the center core and its boosters. The mission involves a five-and-a-half year mission, involving gravity assists, to reach a highly-elliptic orbit around Europa.
