History

Construction first begin in 1966, with the spaceport being opened in 1969. At that time it was operated by a predecessor to JAXA.

Osaki Launch Complex was first built in the 1970s, before a brief renovation before decommissioning. The original Osaki Launch Complex was decommissioned in 1992, having originally been used for development and operations for earlier N-I, N-II, H-I and J-I launchers.

Yoshinobu Launch Complex was constructed later to support operations for the H-II launcher.
