Additional Background

Two SpacesShipTwo vehicles were built; one was lost in an accident. VSS Unity is the current active vehicle providing sub-orbital passenger services. It has a maximum crewed capacity of 8, of which two are pilot/co-pilot. The maximum altitude of its flight profile is 110-km, technically in space. It launches horizontally aboard a carrier aircraft (White Knight Two), before climbing under its own power and returning to land horizontally.

There was a loss of vehicle in 2014, after the feathering wing section was released earlier than the flight profile could accept, leading to the spacecraft ripping itself apart, killing to the two crew.

The first commercial tourism flight with non-crew passengers took place in 2023.
