There are 14 launch sites at the spaceport; not all are active. There are also two silo-based launch sites. The spaceport largely supports polar or high-inclination orbits.

History

Originally organized In 1957 as a launch site for the R-7 ballistic missile. In 1966 an uncrewed launch using a Vostok launcher initiated its time as a spaceport. Launches since were primarily for military payloads.
