Additional Background

Originally established as the Joint Long Range Proving Ground in 1949, the 1950s and 1960s would see significant activity - during the heydays of ICBM development. Launches for NASA, including those for early satellite launches, Mercury, Gemini, and early Apollo missions were also supported from this spaceport. There is a runway on-site, but it is entirely a vertical-launch site, for rockets. Today, commercial tenants include ULA, SpaceX, and Blue Origin.
