Facilities at the site still support activities at Alcântara Launch Center. Largely dormant at this point, but not deactivated.
Established in 1965, by the originally military-led Brazilian Space Program, it has been used for more than 200 launches - most of them suborbital. Over time the Alcântara Launch Center took over most launch focus. As a result, there has not been a launch here since 2007.
