Additional Background

As a carrier aircraft, Cosmic Girl is used to move the carried rocket to a position where it can reach its intended inclination, and where the discarded rocket stages can fall harmlessly into the ocean. The Boeing 747, modified to carry the LauncherOne rocket under one of its wings, takes off horizontally from the launch site. After reaching the release altitude, it drops the rocket and flies away from the rocket exhaust path before the rocketis ignited. After release, it then flies back to the launch site and lands horizontally.
