Indexes

Have trouble keeping all these spacecraft, launchers, and launch sites straight? Which company is operating what? How space agencies are part of that mix? It can be hard, especially with industry consolidation and suppliers versus space agency operators versus commercial operators.

Our indexes are a relational database of all these pieces of the industry, helping you discover how inter-related much of it is. Look at a company and see a launcher, explore what spacecraft launch on it, where it launches from, what engines it uses. If those are procured engines, explore more about that company.

The indexes are broken down into meaningful categories covering information specific to the industry:

  • Companies engaged in spacefaring activities or the industries that support it
  • Government Space Agencies and private programs that fund much spaceflight in Low Eath Orbit and beyond.
  • Launchers: the rockets (and some planes) that lift payload and crew into space
  • Satellites, capsules, space stations, and other equipment and Spacecraft
  • Rocket engines and thrusters that make spacecraft and launchers go
  • Facilities, where rockets, engines, and spacecraft take shape, and operations are managed
  • Launch Sites, the places where rockets (and some planes) take to the skies
  • Spaceports, the airport's distant cousin

Launches

Until on-orbit, lunar, or martian manufacturing becomes a reality, up-mass is still a critical element of the global space industry. We follow launch service providers so you don't have to. Find out about company or space agency launch manifests, or review their launch histories including launchers, payload, launch site, and other context; like the indexes, this is relational information. Follow us on X for real-time coverage and photos from the space community. Subscribe to the paid newsletter for launch notifications and results. We currently cover a few companies, and will add more as we work out the details.

What our launch coverage includes

1. Reminder of an upcoming launch

We'll send a reminder in our Substack for each launch we cover 2-3 days ahead of time, linking to the launch page and pointing out ways to watch.

Monthly Launch Brief

Monthly, we summarize the near-term launch manifests of the covered providers, with notes about any significant or interesting launches among them. This is communicated as a post in our Substack.

2. Launch Summary

Some longstanding launch service providers may make launches appear routine, but they remain a challenging activity. Though often short, we'll cover what happened during the launch in our Substack.

3. Mission Results

Several days later we will discuss the results of the mission on Substack.
